Folk Village - Cheju Island, South Korea |
Cheju Island is a beautiful sub-tropic paradise,
with a rich culture that's remarkably different then that of the South Korean
peninsula. This photo was taken in the old folk village,
at a traditional Cheju home that was lived in for more than 300 years.
The structure with the thatched-roof is the entranceway to the courtyard
of a home which is surrounded by stone walls made of black basalt (lava rock).
Traditional Cheju homes are also thatched-roofed and made of black basalt rock.
The very large tree was said to be over 600 years old.
